This Privacy Policy explains how TerrainIQ ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile application available on Google Play.

1. Information We Collect and Process

TerrainIQ operates on a privacy-first model and collects minimal data strictly necessary for app functionality:

• Precise and Approximate Location Data: We access your device's GPS coordinates solely to provide local weather, environmental conditions, and terrain information.
• No Server-Side Personal Data Storage: Location data fetched for weather and terrain services is processed temporarily in-memory and is not saved, archived, or stored on TerrainIQ servers.
• No Personal Identifiable Information (PII): We do not require account registration, nor do we collect names, phone numbers, email addresses, or device contact lists.

2. How We Use Location Data & Permissions

Your location data is used exclusively to:

• Retrieve local weather, elevation, and terrain maps via secure API requests.
• Enable background GPS tracking during active outdoor activities (running, hiking, cycling, skiing, walking).

Prominent Disclosure: TerrainIQ accesses location data only when needed to deliver real-time map updates, environmental information, and activity tracking. Location data is never used for advertising, tracking across apps, or profiling.

3. Data Sharing & Third-Party Services

• Third-Party Services: To provide maps and weather, the app sends anonymous, localized coordinates to external API services (e.g., weather and mapping providers). These requests contain no personal identifiers.
• AI-Powered Briefings: TerrainIQ uses Anthropic's Claude AI API to generate personalized activity briefings ("TerrainIQ Brief"). Briefing requests include your current activity type, anonymous location coordinates, and local weather conditions only. No personally identifiable information is transmitted to Anthropic's servers.
• No Data Selling: We do not sell, rent, or trade location data or any other user data to third parties under any circumstances.

4. Data Security & Retention

• Security: All data in transit between TerrainIQ and third-party API providers is encrypted using standard HTTPS/TLS protocols.
• Retention: Because location data is not saved to external databases, TerrainIQ retains zero bytes of personal user data on remote servers. Activity history is stored locally on your device only.

5. Data Deletion Rights (Google Play Compliance)

Under Google Play's User Data policy, users have a right to request data deletion. Because TerrainIQ does not collect, store, or create user accounts or store personal data on remote servers, there is no personal data stored that requires deletion. However, users can immediately revoke location permissions or erase locally cached activity data at any time via Android Device Settings (Settings > Apps > TerrainIQ > Permissions or Storage > Clear Data).

6. Children's Privacy

TerrainIQ complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Google Play's Families Policy. We do not knowingly collect or target personal information from children under 13 years of age.

7. Policy Updates & Contact Information

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted in-app and on our website.
